Covent Garden based Stanfords are widely recognised as one of the leading brands for Travel publications, and have developed a very strong brand through their high street offering. Stanfords commissioned EAOM to help develop their brand online via a new website that would include a large focus on eCommerce, with additional supporting material to provide users key information and insights into a wide range of destinations. The project was a true labour of love for both EAOM and Stanfords, with the end result fulfilling the criteria to develop a truly wonderful hybrid website.

THE BRIEF

When Stanfords approached EAOM, they had three very clear objectives in mind for the development of the new website; (1) The projection of the Stanfords brand online and helping to position Stanfords as THE market leader for travel information and books (2) the development of a high end eCommerce website that would be able to cope with over 50,000 SKUs whilst maintaining a very simple way of navigation through the site for the user (3) the development of a comprehensive library of travel information and insights across a number of countries from across the world.

Within all of this the look and feel of the website needed to empathise with the existing brand identity/ethos without trying to promote stereotype, but remaining sensitive the destinations and information on the site.

THE RESULT

The final result was the culmination of many long hours and months working very closely with Stanfords to ensure that the brand identity was maintained throughout all of the creative work developed by EAOM.

In addition to the creative elements, the navigational structure and user experience for the website was comprehensively considered in order to provide a strong balance between the eCommerce element of the website and the information driven aspect.

Within the eCommerce section of the website, EAOM implemented the Multi Faceted Search navigation, allowing the user to start at a very generic level and filtering down the search results to a narrow selection that is relevant to their choices.

Alongside all of this, EAOM maintained a very strong SEO friendly structure to the website has allowed Stanfords to focus on both generic and long tail search terms.
